About Susanna
I am a story teller using watercolor as my words.
My interest in art began when I was 4 years old and became excited with color and never looked back! Working my way through college, I discovered so many kinds of art: illustration, history, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, jewelry, oil and acrylic - but no watercolor.
Upon moving to Florida in 1977 from Los Angeles, I discovered a different light and a few watercolorists. As I was participating in the Outdoor Art Festivals, my acrylics slowly evolved into transparent watercolors. After 45 years in that fun and wonderful business I “retired” to paint for national competitions.
My work is executed in the medium of watercolor using the glaze method of layering transparent washes over previously painted areas until the desired color and intensity is achieved. Some of these glazes may be 20 layers thick. My work has consisted of various series over my career; crystal and flowers, collections of personal objects, and images from my travels. Their various textural elements and exciting color combinations stimulate my senses as an artist while weaving a story about the exciting images!
